PROJECT OVERVIEW

In the Fall of 2006, The George Washington University School of Medicine, Physicians for Peace, and the Ministry of Health of Eritrea signed a Memorandum of Agreement to establish post-graduate training programs for physicians in Surgery and Pediatrics. The program was inaugurated in December 2007 and the first class of residents started their training in January 2008.The newly established post-graduate training consists of a two-year pediatric residency and a three-year surgical residency. The goal of these programs is to produce both new faculty members to teach in pediatric and surgery courses for future residents, as well as practicing pediatricians and surgeons to serve the capital and provinces.

Physicians for Peace, The George Washington University School of Medicine and the Ministry of Health of Eritrea are working to build health care capacity in this war-torn country.
