Obama Campaign to Tap Eritrean-Americian Community in the DC area

With only five weeks remaining in the presidential election and gaining a significant lead in recent polls, presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama's campaign will send Congressman Donald Payne (D-NJ) to address a huge number of Eritrean-Americans audience at Howard University (Blackburn Center) this coming Sunday, October 5, 2008 starting at 12:00 noon.
Congressman Payne, who was one of the early key Obama endorsers during the Primary and also a familiar figure in the Horn of African Diaspora communities, is a perfect fit to address the Eritrean-American community about the importance and significance of voting for Senator Obama on December 4, 2008 as the next President of the United States.
Congressman Payne, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, has conducted a three-day working visit in Eritrea in January of this year. Upon his conclusion of his visit he stated that he had closely observed the Eritrean government's efforts to improve the people's standard of living and step up development, and he asserted that the United States respects the Eritrean government's stance and wishes to develop good relations with Eritrea.
This is perhaps a bit comforting to some Eritreans who seem a bit apprehensive about Obama's foreign Policy advisors and their roles towards African, and particularly towards Eritrea, should he be elected a President in December.
Regardless, a great number of Eritrean-Americans are expected to attend this historic event and there is no doubt that Congressman Payne will deliver an important message. By the same token, I will remain hopeful that the Eritrean-American community will also get a chance to hear from the Republican hopeful, Senator John McCain's campaign.
