MOUNT LAUREL — Bishop John Smith, head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Trenton, will lead a funeral Mass on Saturday for a Cistercian monk who was
killed in a motor-vehicle collision last week.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for the Rev. Teclezghi
Ucbaghiorghis at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church on Walton
Avenue in Mount Laurel.

Viewings for Ucbaghiorghis will be held at the church Friday from 8 p.m.
until midnight and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Burial will occur in Ucbaghiorghis' home country of Eritrea, Africa.

Ucbaghiorghis was a longtime member of the Cistercians monks and spent the
past 11 years at the Our Lady Fatima Monastery in Mount Laurel, where he
served as director of vocations and as a pastoral minister.

Ucbaghiorghis also assisted at St. John Neumann parish, which is located
adjacent to the monastery.

Ucbaghiorghis was killed Aug. 31 in a motor-vehicle accident on Route 13 in
Pocomoke City, Md. According to church officials, Ucbaghiorghis was
returning home from a wedding the previous day and collided with another car
at a highway crossover at the entrance to the city. Jane Kern, 70, of
Freehold was killed and two other residents of Freehold were seriously
injured in the crash, according to police.
