UN Expresses Appreciation To Ethiopia To Support It Extends To UNMEE
Addis Ababa, September 2, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - The United Nations
expressed appreciation to the Ethiopian government to the support it
extended to the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE)
during its stay in Ethiopia.
UNMEE Special Envoy presented letter of thanks sent by the United
Nations Secrete ray General Banki Mun on his own behalf and that of the
UN here on Tuesday at the National Palace to Ethiopian president Girma
Wolde-giorgis.
While conferring with Girma, the Envoy, who took leave of him, said the
Ethiopian government deserves admiration to the support and coordination
it has shown to UNMEE during its stay here.
He said the Ethiopian government has effectively discharged its
responsibilities during UNMEE's 8-year stay with in the Temporary
Security Zone.
The Ambassador expressed hope that the two countries would direct their
attention to development.
President Girma on his part said the Ethiopian government is committed
to peace, among other things.
He also assured the Ambassador that Ethiopia would do everything
possible to bring a lasting peace between the two countries and
establish ties between the peoples of the two nations, according to a
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
