Ethiopian rebel group denies helping Islamists in Somalia

The Ogaden National Liberation Front [ONLF] has denied reports that it
took part in the recent fighting that broke out in the port town of
Kismaayo, during which MP Barre Adan Shire, aka Hirale, and his militia
were ousted.
ONLF denied that its fighters were involved in the fighting between the
militia that controlled the port town on one side, and fighters loyal to
Al-Shabaab Islamic Movement and Union of Islamic Courts on the other.
The rebel group made the statement after MP Hirale said that ONLF
fighters helped the Islamists in the fighting. The deputy chairman of
ONLF, Abdikadir Hasan Hirmoge, who is in the Eritrean capital, Asmara,
described Hirale's statement as baseless.
Hirmoge said that ONLF fighters operate inside Ethiopia only, where they
are fighting for independence, but not in Somalia.
