Sudanese Kenyan mediation to return Eritrea to the IGAD
Khartoum, Aug 12 (SUNA)- Minister for Foreign Affairs, Deng Alor, will
leave for Asmara, capital of Eritrea, Thursday within the context of a
Sudanese Kenyan mediation seeking to convince Eritrea into returning to
IGAD, the Sudan News Agency SUNA learned.
The Foreign Ministers of Kenya and the Sudan, SUNA learned, will call on
the Eritrean President, Asias Afwerki, within the context of this
mediation after Asmara nodded in approval to the principle of mediation.
Sudanese ambassador to Eritrea, Salah Mohamed Al Hassan, pointed out
that IGAD summit meeting held in Addis Ababa last July had delegated
Sudan and Kenya to make contacts with Eritrea with the view to convince
it into rescinding its decision on the suspension of its IGAD
membership, a move it had announced earlier.
Ambassador Salah Mohamed told SUNA that this step is seeking to convince
Eritrea to end its move and resume activities within IGAD and take part
in the IGAD's coming summit set to take place in Sudan. MA/MA
