The annual Washington, D.C Festival celebration will be held this weekend and Festival organizers are putting the final touches to what will be one of the biggest Eritrean gathering this summer starting Friday, August 8, 2008 though Sunday August 10, 2008.
 
This year, Washington, D.C Festival celebration will kick off its opening night at the Omni Shoreham Hotel on Connecticut ave., NW, by welcoming local and out of state guests as well as dignitaries. On Saturday, an official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony by the Festival guest of honor will be held at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro at 5:00pm, followed by a traditional coffee ceremony and exhibition tour. At the Show Place Arena there will be seminars and workshops by OEA, as well as Eritrean Women's Organization and others. At the halls of the Arena, there will be several Eritrean vendors with their latest CDs, videos, books and other interesting materials.
 
Later on in the evening, the main stage will be set for a memorable musical extravaganza featuring Eritrean youth with traditional wardrobes from local and surrounding states, traditional fashion show and, of course, for a high energy guyla by the one and only Helen Meles along with Ogaby Mesfin, Isak Simon, Mehret Zerhanas and Habtom Debessay. This Year's musical group will also be spiced up by the presence of Shingerwa's own Yemane Kidane and Barnobas.
 
On Sunday, Festival will continue at the Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC where additional seminars, youth talent show, trophy award ceremony and musical extravaganza will continue. The public seminar by Eritrean guest of honor will be held in the afternoon and that will be followed by another music seminar by Barnobas before opening the stage for entertainment.
 
In sports, especially the youth basketball, which getting more and more popularity, all the events will be held at the same venue at the address below. Eritrean runners sponsored by EAAA will show their talent, Eritrean kids will play organized soccer, a Golf tournament is also scheduled as well as the popular soccer and the most exciting youth basketball (you sure don't want miss this one!)
