President Isaias encourages nation’s athletes who would participate in the Beijing Olympics

Asmara, 2 July 2008 – Receiving today athletes and couches who would represent the nation in the Beijing Olympics, President Isaias Afwerki encouraged them to demonstrate high performance and thereby be a pride to their country.

Noting that there exists high potential in Eritrea in different fields of sport, the President stressed the need on the part of the Sports Commission to nurture competent sportsmen and women in sufficient number in all domains in the future. He further advised the athletes who would participate in the Beijing Olympics to do their level best, and thus score gratifying outcome. President Isaias also announced that special prizes would be awarded to those Eritrean athletes who score outstanding results at the Olympic Games.

Among those who would participate in the Beijing Olympics, Athletes Zeresenai Tadesse and Nebiat Habetemariam told ERINA that they have made the necessary preparations and training. They also expressed hope that they would return home with impressive achievements in line with the encouragement and moral support extended to them by the President and the people.

11 Eritrean athletes and one cyclist would participate in the Beijing Olympics which is scheduled to open on August 8.
