*Toronto,Ont.,24 February,2011**-- *On Saturday February 19th,the local
YPFDJ Chapter held the third annual Fenkil event to commemorate the 21st
Anniversary of
the liberation of the city port of Massawa. This highly successful event was
celebrated by Eritreans in Toronto with great patriotic zeal and registered
an encouraging number of Youth in attendance.

To the delight of organizers, parents and youth alike from various parts of
the province also took part in the celebrations. Respectively, Eritreans
from as far as London (Ontario), Kitchener and Hamilton were present in
significant numbers.

The event started out with speeches made by YPFDJ and PFDJ representatives
who underscored the great importance of holding events of such a great
historical relevance. It was noted that while past generations of youth,
with their dedication and sacrifice, had obtain independence against all
odds, this current generation is embarked on the equally challenging task of
shouldering the responsibility of bringing about the current development
endeavors undertaken in the country.
Likewise,it was pointed out, how it is of paramount importance for Eritreans
in the diaspora to host such type of events as a way to preserve heritage
and retain cultural identity by raising the level of consciousness with
regards to one's own history.

The highlight of the evening came in the form of an exhilarating vocal
performance made by Luwam Thomas who gave a rendition of an old patriotic
song by artist Aklilu Foto*'Tefono'*. Furthermore, a video presentation made
by youths was also shown. This presentation explained in details how the
events of Operation Fenkil unfolded from the perspective of a former Freedom
Fighter who took part in that victorious battle. The evening then continued
on with dances until the end of the program.

It is with the utmost gratitude and appreciation that YPFDJ-Toronto would
like to thank all those who took part in the celebrations and have shown
great deal of support in making this event, indeed, a successful one.

Zelalemawi zikri N'suwatna,
