Libya affirms its support to Eastern Sudan

Tripoli, Jan. 11 (SUNA) - Assistant of the President of the Republic, Musa Mohamed Ahmed, and the State Minister at the Ministry of Environment, Mabrook Mubarak Saleem, met in Tripoli Tuesday the Secretary of the General People's Committee,Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmudi

The State Minister at the Ministry of Environment, Mabrook Mubarak Saleem, explained in a statement to the press that the East Sudan Peace Agreement has stipulated convocation of an international conference for the development of Eastern Sudan, expressing gratitude to the State of Kuwait which hosted the conference

He said that the participating countries have pledged to provide around four billion US dollars for development in eastern Sudan, adding that 3, 5 billion Dollars were already collected for this objective

Meanwhile, Saleem explained that 600 million US dollars were allocated for the Eastern Sudan Development Fund, 50% out of this fund was paid already, but it is not enough for implementation of all the development programmes

He said that their current visit to Libya comes in support to the firm relations between Sudan and Libya in a view that Libya was among the foremost countries that exerted tremendous efforts to prop up the efforts for realizing peace in eastern Sudan

Saleem revealed that he signed a memorandum with the Libyan Minister of Transport when he visited Sudan, explaining that Libya is committed to construct number of roads from Libya to the Northern State and Darfur States, besides a tourist village, a cement factory and roads through Buttana area

He said that the meeting of the Sudanese delegation with the Secretary General of the General People's Committee, Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmudi, agreed to set up a committee to assume implementation of the projects endorsed by the Conference of Kuwait, explaining that the Libyan support to East Sudan will be announced Wednesday after discussing it by the People's General Committee

He also touched at a meeting with the Director of the International Center for the Research and Studies on the Green Book, explaining that the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding which was focused on the exchange of visits and delegations and the training of cadres
