On Saturday, May 1st the YPFDJ Dallas chapter hosted a charity car
wash to raise money for an orphanage they plan to adopt in Eritrea.
After reports of an imminent thunderstorm, many were worried that the
event would have to be canceled. However, thanks to a quick tsolot
(prayer) the sun came out which allowed for much business throughout
the day. Over thirty volunteers took time out of their busy days to
assist, in what proved to be an extremely successful and fun
fundraiser event. Kids as young three years old rolled up their
sleeves to help their peers. Whether it was holding a sign on the side
of the street or soaping up cars, those who volunteered lent a
personal hand towards alleviating some financial stress faced by
orphanages in Eritrea. From mothers serving sha'hee & kit'cha, to
young kids asking for donations on the side of the street, every age
group was represented and ready to work!
This fundraiser was an example of how an Eritrean community can be
unified in pursuing a common goal: helping their counterparts- young
Eritreans back home. This was a vivid example of how a small community
could produce big results. And because of the great results, the
Dallas chapter has planned an additional car wash, hoping to match the
success of this past weekend.

Several representatives of the YPFDJ Dallas chapter have volunteered
to hand deliver the proceeds to a specified orphanage in Eritrea this
summer. This will strengthen the personal relations and allow for
further connections in which the chapter can offer their continuous
support. YPFDJ Dallas would like to share their appreciation for such
a supportive local Eritrean community, who is always there to lend a
hand or an encouraging word, and say thank you to all the volunteers
who came to help during the event. The success of the event was a
testament to the impervious will of the Eritrean youth, and the
unified determination in providing for their country that permeates
throughout the Eritrean diaspora.
