Meb Keflezighi to Participate in the National Physical Activity Plan Launch
Event

The National Physical Activity Plan will launch Monday, May 3, 2010

On May 3, 2010, the National Physical Activity Plan, which has been promoted
in the RRCA publications Inside Track and Club Runningmagazine, will
kick off with a signature launch event at the Press Club
in Washington, D.C. for journalists and invited guests. Participating in
the launch event, as the guest athlete, is distance running star, Olympic
silver medalist, and 2009 ING New York City Marathon winner, Meb
Keflezighi.

“Running is one of the fastest growing fitness activities in America and
participation in running events is booming. So it makes perfect sense to
have a distance runner as our guest athlete at the launch of the National
Physical Activity Plan,” explained Jean Knaack, RRCA executive director.
“Meb is an individual that has benefited from physical education and access
to sports in the school setting. He personifies what is possible if
resources for physical activity are made available at an early age.”

Meb will be in attendance at the press conference starting at 9:30 AM on
Monday May 3, 2010 at the National Press Club. Following the press
conference, Meb will join other leaders associated with the National
Physical Activity Plan to speak at Congressional briefings for members and
staff of both the House and Senate.

About the National Physical Activity Plan:
The National Physical Activity Plan has been developed by a broad collection
of organizations, governmental agencies, and individuals dedicated to
developing a plan that will empower all Americans to be physically active
every day. With a comprehensive network of resources that continues to
expand, we are gaining momentum towards meeting our ultimate goal of
increasing physical activity nationwide. The mission of the National
Physical Activity Plan is to develop a plan that produces a marked and
progressive increase in the percentage of Americans who meet physical
activity guidelines throughout life. The National Plan for Physical
Activity will:
make a compelling and urgent case for increasing physical activity in the
American population; provide a clear roadmap for actions that support short
and long term progress in increasing Americans’ physical activity; develop
strategies for increasing physical activity in all population subgroups and
reducing disparities across subgroups; create a sustained and resourced
social movement that provides for ongoing coordination, partnerships,
capacity building, and evaluation; develop new and innovative strategies for
promoting physical activity; undergo periodic evaluation to assess
achievements in increasing physical activity. Learn more at
