in.jpgAsmara, 4 April 2010 - Equipping Eritrean youth both inside and
outside the country with skills, knowledge and discipline is vital for
securing national interests, stated Mr. Yeman Gebreab, Head of Political
Affairs at the PFDJ. He made the remarks in the seminar he conducted for the
participants of the 6th Youth PFDJ Conference in Berlin, Germany.

In the paper he presented in the seminar titled "Eritrea's National
Interests", Mr. Yemane pointed out that national interest basically means
the interest of the majority as well as the youth and that the Eritrean
government is striving relentlessly to ensure that Eritrean national
interests do not represent the interest of only the privileged minority as
is the case in many countries.

Indicating that it is the Eritrean government's enduring principle to
participate in the different stages of regional and global developments in
view of the fact that national interests cannot be secured in isolation, Mr.
Yemane underlined the need for strenuous efforts to protect Eritrean
national interests in the face of global power shifts and the presence of
non-governmental powers.

"We can only protect our national interests by developing global
perspectives, cultivating tolerance and strengthening awareness. In today's
world Eritrea is a leading example of the culture of mutual tolerance," Mr.
Yemane explained. He finally reminded the participants that the Young PFDJ
movements should be based on four important pillars, i.e, identification
with one's values, awareness, success and serving the people.

It is to be recalled that around 600 youth from different parts of Europe,
America, Middle East, Canada as well as Eritrea are participating in the 6th
Youth PFDJ Conference underway in Berlin under the theme "PFDJ: 40 years of
leading ideology and action".
