This weekend over 30 kids, ranging from third grade to High School, went on
their first of many field trips with the help of YPFDJ who chaperoned. Each
and every one of the children has shown remarkable academic achievement not
only in Tigrinya School but as well as within their own schools. They’ve
shown some amazing interest in learning their rich culture and heritage.
Within the last few months as well as numerous times in 2009, they have
performed several performances comprised of traditional dances and skits. To
all in which they earned their well deserved field trip filled with fun and
adventure.

We are continuing to grow and excel as a community and the United Eritrean
American Families of Dallas have done an excellent job nurturing the
identities of the children of Dallas by providing a place weekly to bond
with their peers, learn their heritage, and get extra tutoring for their
class work. Overall, the organizations that collaborate with the United
Eritrean American Families of Dallas are amazed by the dedication of the
community and inspired by their determination to provide a place of their
own for the youth of Dallas. As we continue to strive towards achievement as
Eritrean Americans, having a community is crucial in the development of
identity for the children and as they say, “right now it feels homeless.”
That is why finding a facility that encompasses all these things is
imperative for the future generations.
