Massawa, 2 February 2010 - The Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed
Seid, said that the acts of conspiracy weaved by the US Administration to
obstruct the independent political path of the people and Government of
Eritrea, and thereby exercise absolute control over the Red Sea and the Horn
region would be foiled through the firm unity and steadfastness of the
Eritrean people.

He made the remarks in an interview he conducted today with ERINA in the
port city of Massawa in connection with the 20th anniversary of Operation
Fenkil. Mr. Al-Amin pointed out that the vicious US sanctions resolution
adopted in the name of the Security Council is just an extension of previous
hostile stance. In this respect, he expressed conviction that such acts of
hostility would only strengthen the valor and patriotism of the people and
Government of Eritrea.

He further recalled the dramas staged by Washington in the mid 1980s and
early 1990s under the guise of peace dialogue with the Eritrean Revolution.
Upon close scrutiny, however, such a drama was in essence between "kneel
down" on the one hand and "NEVER!" on the other, the PFDJ Secretary
underscored. Mr. Al-Amin elaborated that the latest maneuvers in the from of
sanctions is but only a change in name and time, and as such it is the same
drama. In this respect, he pointed out that history would once again prove
that the Eritrean people would as ever emerge victorious.

Noting that the hegemony-driven US administration has been persistently
weaving acts of conspiracy and injustice against Eritrea and its people
since the 1940s, Mr. Al-Amin explained that the war of aggression unleashed
by the servant TPLF regime and the ensuing colossal damage to life and
property constitutes one of the concrete examples of such misdeeds.

In the face of the current challenge, The PFDJ Secretary emphasized the need
to put up united resistance, hard work and productivity on top of
reinforcing national unity.

In connection with the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Operation
Fenkil, he underlined that the event not only symbolized the heroic feats of
the freedom fighters but also changed the course of history of the Horn
region.

Asmara, 2 February 2010 - President Isaias Afwerki today received and held
talks with the Japanese Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Shigeo Iwatani.

In the meeting at the Denden Hall here in the capital, the two sides
conducted discussion on the objective situation in the region and the world
at large, as well as Eritrean-Japanese cooperation of partnership and the
unjust US sanctions resolutions adopted in the name of the Security Council.

President Isaias expressed the Eritrean government's desire to further
enhance Eritrean-Japanese cooperation. He went on to voice disappointment
over the support that Japan, member of the Security Council, gave to the
sanctions resolution against Eritrea adopted in the name of the Security
Council. And this despite the fact that Eritrea supported Japan's bid for
membership in the Council, he elaborated.

On the Somali issue, the President asserted that the issue should be left to
the Somali people to resolve, and that this remains Eritrea's principled
stance. He also indicated that Eritrea is playing modest role towards
promoting peace in Somalia.
