Equal Opportunities for Progressive Development
Mar 11, 2009, 12:19
One of the major measurements of social development is ensuring equal
opportunities. Equality, in its broadest meaning, is the equal distribution
of resources to all regions and the society. A nation or society that falls
short of ensuring equal opportunities for all members of the society will
fail in attaining the desired development and ensuring social justice.
Hence, it should be noted that ensuring equal opportunity is a perquisite
for building a wellbeing nation and society. In this respect the priority
becomes the issue of women who comprise half of the society. Hence, ensuring
equal opportunities of women in every aspect and securing the equal
participation in the matters of the nation simply goes beyond the issue of
human rights and is national and human welfare.
In Eritrea, during the struggle for independence as well as in the nation
building process the broad participation of women has further reaffirmed
that it is also part of safeguarding national security and development. As a
result, it would not be exaggerated to say that the perception of the people
of Eritrea towards gender issue outpaces many similar other nations.
Possessing such a quality attests to the level of progressiveness and social
development of Eritrea.
Therefore, it is imperative that we conserve our positive history regarding
the issue of gender and further enrich it and make it one of our social
values and norms.
As it is known, making Eritrea a nation in which its citizens regardless of
their sex or class will have an equal opportunity and access to social
justice is the vision of the Government of Eritrea. To reach to this goal,
we need to ensure that equal opportunities reach all sections of society and
that we work hard boosting our drive to achieve the desired development.
