Somalia: Sheik Aweys says fighting will continue

 [ Feb-25 ]

MOGADIHSU (Mareeg)--Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys, the chairman of the Asmara
based wing of the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia said
Wednesday
fighting will continue until African Union troops withdraw from Somalia.

Sheik Aweys is in exile in the Eritrean capital, Asmara and strongly
opposed
the new government led by Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed.

27 innocent civilians were killed and 120 others were injured in the
fighting continuing in Mogadishu for the second day.

"The fighting will continue until the African Union troops who invaded
to
our country leave," said Dahir Aweys.

The statement of Hassan Dahir Aweys comes as fierce fighting between
allied
government and AU forces at one side and Islamist rebel militias is
underway
in the capital, Mogadishu.

Sheik Aweys criticized the calls from the Islamic clerics who said that
fighting was not the right solution and called for the Insurgents to
stop
it.

Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys and Somalia's president Sheik Sharif Sheik
Ahmed
were once close friends, but Sheik Aweys rejected to support the new
government.
