Ethiopia: National Bank Looted of Money and Gold Deposits
Jan 28, 2009 Credible sources in Addis Ababa have confirmed to the
Ogaden Online News service desk that most of the money reserves and gold
deposits in the Ethiopian central bank have been looted. It is reported
that no one knows who has done the looting of such magnitude, although
it is feared that the release of such information may lead to widespread
mayhem and probably public revolt.
Some of our sources have correctly speculated that such theft could not
succeed without consent and involvement of the members of the Tigrian
clique in Addis Ababa. The reported looting following a recent
unexplained foreign currency transactions carried out by the regime in
both the self styled north western and north eastern Somali fiefdoms.
Large quantities of Ethiopian Birr have been reported to have been
exchanged for United States Dollars. It is said that those who looted
the money may have feared the sudden loss of value of the Birr.
