Asmara, 7 January 2009 - President Isaias Afwerki pointed out that the
incidence of terrorism, piracy, instability and the like have become a
blessing in disguise for the US Administration's adventurous programs of
interference and monopolizing resources around the world.

He made the salient remarks during the third and final part of the interview
he conducted with the national media which was also transmitted live-online
in Alenalki.com and Hagersat.com focusing on the objective situation in the
country, the region and the globe at large. The President noted that the US
Administration used the 9/11 terrorism attack as a cover-up for the
adventurous military strategy it pursued in the Post-World War II era of
dividing the world into different zones, and thereby exercise control over
them. In this connection, he explained that the establishment of the US
Central Command and the so-called African High Command is but a continuation
of such strategy with a view to exercising control over the region
concerned.

Indicating that the root cause of piracy is the prevailing vacuum in
Somalia, President Isaias stressed the need to properly identify the main
cause so as to find remedy for the issue. Had there been a viable government
in Somalia with full land, sea and air control, the existing scenario that
has become a blessing in disguise for interference and monopolizing
resources could have been solved, he added.

As regards the problem in the Middle East in general and the
Palestinian-Israeli crisis in particular, the President noted that the
evasive attempts made to-date have been putting aside the root cause and the
ones that became the cause for beating around the bush. Moreover, he pointed
out that Washington's partiality with Israel in all issues further
aggravated matters, besides undermining the role of the United States. In
this respect, President Isaias stated that the Bush Administration remains
the main source of complication of the issue, and underlined the need for
achieving a genuine solution to the problem.

Replying to a question regarding attempts made to justify the US invasion of
Iraq under the pretext of destroying weapons of mass destruction, the
President explained that despite Saddam Hussein's adventurous stance, the
invasion was basically carried out to ensure Washington's interests and full
control of resources in the area. He added talks about wrong intelligence
reports about the issue are but mere ploys to seek excuse.

On the current economic and financial crisis in the world in general and the
United States in particular, President Isaias explained that it is the
outcome of the American economic system based on individualism, greed and
plunder that serves only the few. He elaborated that the consumers have now
drawn lesson from consequences of an economic system that prompts excessive
consumerism through securing loans. Such a situation amply demonstrates the
failure of the capitalist system which the monopoly forces tried to
forcefully impose on the world population, President Isaias indicated. He
underscored that the way out of the current crisis lies in replacing the
economic and financial system that had been serving only a narrow section
with a new world economic order and thinking that benefits the majority.

In conclusion, the President called on every national to renew his/her
pledge and exert unremitting efforts so as to register still greater
achievements in the nation-building process. He also wished Happy New Year
and Merry Christmas to the entire Eritrean people, as well as peace and
justice-loving parties.
