Ethiopia says troops pulling out of Somalia Fri 2 Jan 2009, 14:26 GMT
ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Ethiopia said on Friday the withdrawal of its troops
was under way from Somalia, where they have been helping the transitional
government fight an Islamist insurgency for the past two years.
"The withdrawal of our troops from Somalia has entered the implementation
phase," said Bereket Simon, special adviser to Ethiopian Prime Minister
Meles Zenawi.
"The withdrawal is not an event that can be completed within a day. It will
be finalised as quickly as possible," he told Reuters.
A convoy of trucks laden with Ethiopian soldiers, mattresses and other
equipment was seen leaving the capital Mogadishu earlier on Friday.
