ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President
Mian Shaukat Masud met with State of Eritrea Counsellor Wolde G Habte
and exchanged views to increase bilateral business relations.

He said like Pakistan, Eritrea is also an agricultural economy as some
80% of its population is involved in farming and herding which offers
great trade potential in this sector between the two countries. He said
Eritrea's agricultural products include sorghum, lentils, vegetables,
corn, cotton, tobacco, and sisal while cattle like sheep, goats, and
camels are raised and hides are produced.

Pinpointing other potential areas of investment for Pakistani
entrepreneurs, he said Eritrea, being still a virgin land, offers good
investment opportunities particularly in manufacturing, mining, tourism,
fisheries and the Free Zones on its ports. He said Eritrea's natural
resources include gold, potash, zinc, copper, marble, granite and salt,
but they have not yet been fully exploited.

He said by exploring investment potential in these sectors, Pakistani
businessmen and investors can reap rich returns. He said Eritrea's oil &
gas reserves and some other sectors are also potential areas of
investment for foreign investors and called upon Pakistani entrepreneurs
to take advantage of these opportunities by making investments in
Eritrea, which will prove beneficial for the economies of the two
countries. While welcoming Wolde.G.Habte, Counsellor, Embassy of the
State of Eritrea at ICCI, Mian Shaukat Masud, President, Islamabad
Chamber of Commerce and Industry said relations between Pakistan and
Eritrea go back to the colonial days and Pakistan has always been
supportive of Eritrea's freedom while it was also one of the first
countries to support Eritrea's independence from Italian colonialism.

He said Pakistani businessmen are keen to enhance business relations
between the two countries and added that ICCI plans to take a business
delegation to Eritrea to study and explore business potential in
different areas of Eritrea's economy to make investment to meet the
local needs of the Eritrean people.

He asked the Eritrean Counsellor to extend all possible help to
facilitate this tour. He also invited the Ambassador of Embassy of the
State of Eritrea to visit ICCI and have direct interaction with our
business community so that more avenues of enhancing trade and
investment between the two countries could be identified.
