Eritrean President: Chad is Required to Contribute Directly to the
Solution of Darfur Issue
 
Asmara, May 16 (SUNA)- The Eritrean President, Assais Afwerki, said that
the tension in the relations between Sudan and N'djamena was a result of
the foreign interventions in the internal affairs of the region,
indicating that Chad shall contribute effectively to the solution of
Darfur issue.
 
 Interviewed by Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on the occasion of the 18th
anniversary of Eritrea's Independence Day, which coincides with May 24,
President Afwerki said that Sudan is targeted, especially that its
stability is important for the stability in the Horn of Africa Region,
which is one of the most sensitive areas in the world.
 
 
 He said that the issues of marginalization, development, the
constitution and the sharing of power and wealth can be raised in any
country, but they shall be solved far away from the foreign
interventions, adding that the strategy of targeting is aimed to
instigate and internationalize problems.
 
 President Afwerki described the Sudanese - Eritrean relations as
historic, firm and progressing speedily toward implementing important
joint projects for the interest of the two sister nation He said that
priority shall be given to surpassing the obstacles and foreign
interventions.
 
He said that the so-called International Criminal Court (ICC) is a
colonialist under the domination of the Americans and their colonialist
allies.
 
On the ICC allegations against Sudan and President Al-Bashir, the
Eritrean President called on the Sudanese people to ignore the ICC issue
and not to give any concern tit, and also to work for consolidating the
internal cohesion, implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA)
and find solution for Darfur issue.
 
He said that the Security Council and the United Nations have become a
tool for implementing hegemony strategies, especially in Africa,
referring to the rejection of the super powers to the demand for the
re-structuring of the United Nations.
 
He said that the African countries and governments to deal with the
current reality and to defend their sovereignty and independence and to
resolve their own problems to ward off any foreign intervention under
any pretext.
 
 President Afwerki said that raising the issue of piracy at the Red Sea
area is a pretext for foreign intervention, Stressing that the countries
this region are capable to solve the problems at their region without
foreign intervention. He denied the claims on existence of Iranian
military bases in Eritrea, adding that like these allegations are being
used to conceal particular facts.
 
He said that his country is adherent to the independence of its
decision-making and sovereignty, and that its culture of his country is
opposed to the engagement in alliances and hosting of foreign bases in
its territories.
 
President Afwerki denied existence of leaderships of Darfur rebel
movements in Asmara, adding that his country has no interest to do that.
