The United States Embassy in Addis Ababa said the shutdown of Internet by the Ethiopian regime has severely affected its activities.

Responding to complaints by Ethiopians, who are having difficulty in communicating with the Embassy due to the blockage of the Internet  and social media, the Embassy said it shared the frustrations of the public. “We share your frustration, as the restrictions severely affect our activities as well.”

The Embassy further said the blockage of the Internet has also affected some of the opportunities that the United States offers Ethiopians. “These restrictions make it far more difficult to let you know about important opportunities, like the Mandela Washington Fellowship application or the Diversity Visa Lottery, and other programs or events that may be of interest.”

“The thugs ruling Ethiopia and the U.S. government that have been providing financial and diplomatic support are responsible!” commented Ethio Sun on Facebook.

“The saddest thing is you are still supporting and working with such a government. Shame on you! You are using U.S. resources for anti democracy purposes violating the law,” said another by the name Yeshivas Ayalew.
