On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at approximately 2 p.m., police were called for a suspicious incident in the Lavender Creek Trail area.

Police were made aware of a garbage bag containing what appeared to be a human skull and bones.

On Thursday, April 28, 2016, a pathological and anthropological examination concluded the remain to be that of Rigat Ghirmay, 28, the victim of Homicide #46/2013.

Additional forensic testing will be conducted, and a ground search will be conducted on Friday, April 29, 2016 in the area where the remains were located.

It was reported that:

- a passerby located a suspicious bag on the trail and alerted police

- police attended and located human remains inside the bag

The death of Rigat Essag Ghirmay, 28, has now been deemed a homicide, #46/2013.

On Monday, September 30, 2013, Adonay Zekarias, 42, of Toronto, was charged with First-Degree Murder, upgraded from Indignity to dead body.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Monday, September 30, 2013.

On Friday, May 24, 2013, at approximately 3:20 p.m., police were called to a trail area near 120 Alliance Road.

The victim has been identified as Rigat Essag Ghirmay, 28, of Toronto.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who saw someone in the Humber Boulevard/Alliance Avenue area walking with a black/yellow/green duffle bag with rollers, some time in the past two weeks.

Also, investigators would like to speak to anyone who knew the victim and/or the accused, Adonay Samuel Zekarias, 41.

It was reported that:

A post-mortem examination was conducted and concluded the remains were female. Identity and cause of death has not been determined. A forensic examination of the remains will be conducted.

On Sunday, May 26, 2013, at approximately 7 p.m., police arrested Adonay Zekarias, 41, of Toronto.

He has been charged with:

1) Indignity to dead body

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 10 a.m. at 2201 Finch Avenue West

The investigation is ongoing.

Adonay Zekarias, 44, was convicted of First-Degree Murder for the homicide of Mighisti Semret. He is currently serving a life sentence.

On Monday September 30, 2013, he was also charged with the First-Degree Murder of Rigat Ghirmay.
