Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H. E. Mr. Osman Mohammed Saleh, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Eritrea
Today the Secretary-General met with H. E. Mr. Osman Mohammed Saleh, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Eritrea.
The Secretary-General congratulated Eritrea on the 25th anniversary of its statehood, which was celebrated on 24 May 2016.
The Secretary-General and the Minister for Foreign Affairs exchanged views on a number of issues, including the cooperation between the United Nations and Eritrea and the peace and security challenges in the Horn of Africa region.
The Secretary General encouraged Eritrea to continue implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and expressed hope that Eritrea would finalize its domestic procedures to ratify the Paris Agreement before the end of the year.
