Coroner rules pregnant woman was stabbed to death by her boyfriend

A pregnant woman was stabbed to death by her boyfriend - who later hung himself in prison, an inquest heard.
Eritrean national Mambero Ghebreflafie, 32 from Kingsley Mews, Dagenham, was killed on December 19 by her boyfriend Tebros Kahssay, an asylum seeker who was staying at a hostel in Ridge Avenue, Enfield, run by Cenchrea Homes.
Ms Ghebreflafie had been visiting Kahssay, who had been given indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
Police arrested Kahssay at the scene and charged him with murder on December 21, but proceedings were stopped when the defendant was found hanging in a cell at Pentonville Prison, where he was being held in custody.
In evidence read out in court by North London coroner Andrew Walker, a post-mortem had found that she had been killed by several wounds to her neck from a knife wielded by Kahssay which was found in the same room and covered in blood.
Mr Walker gave a verdict of unlawful killing and said: “In the circumstances, I am sure Mambero Ghebreflafie was deliberately injured with a knife, those injuries causing her death being wounds to the neck.
“These wounds were inflicted by a man who was arrested at the address.
“The evidence in this case suggests the defendant in this case caused an injury to Mambero Ghebreflafie and did so intending to kill or cause some really serious injury.”
During the hearing, DC Simon Stoddart who had been called to the scene by another resident of the house who reported hearing two people fighting, and that when they arrived Kahssay had answered the door covered in blood and “looking like he wanted to leave”.
Ambulance services had arrived and tried to save the mother and her unborn baby, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.
DC Stoddart said that they had been forced to turn off the electricity at the house as so much blood was seeping through the floor that it risked fusing the lights.
