Sisi: Egypt to continue supporting development efforts in Eritrea

Tuesday, 16 February 2016

Egypt will continue to support development efforts in Eritrea in a number of sectors, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said.

The President made the remark during a meeting on Monday 15/2/2016 with visiting Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Eritrean Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Yemane Gebreab.

Osman conveyed a message from Eritrean President Isaias Afworki to Sisi on means of promoting bilateral ties in all fields, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said.

Eritrea considers Egypt as one of the most important pillars of stability in Africa, especially under the challenges and conflicts besetting the continent, Osman said.

Sisi asked Osman to convey his greetings to the Eritrean president, the spokesman said.

The meeting addressed the developments in the African continent and challenges related to fighting terrorism and extremism in the Horn of Africa region, the spokesman added.

The two sides agreed on promoting cooperation to achieve peace, security and stability in Africa, Youssef said.
