Irrigation Minister calls for maximizing use of available water resources

Tuesday, 9 February 2016

Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hossam Moghazi has stressed the need for rationalizing water consumption and maximizing the use of available water resources.

In press statements on Monday 8/2/2016, Moghazi urged to save every drop of water to maintain the rights of coming generations.

Moghazi said that the penalties had become harsher for those responsible for the pollution of Nile Water or the waste of water.

Moghazi denied reports claiming that water plants were affected by the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Ethiopia has not started the water storage so far, he said.

The water storage will start only after completing the agreed technical studies between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, he clarified.

The ministry has a plan to provide the water needs of the company, mainly the potable water, he said.

The minister noted the members of the national tripartite committee of the Renaissance Dam continued their meetings for the second day in a row in Khartoum.

The committee will meet the two consultancy offices tomorrow to review the notes of technical expert, he said.

The meetings may be extended, if there are substantial notes that require meeting the two consultancy offices to agree on such notes, he said.
