The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) affiliated to the Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Health has dispatched a medical team to Eritrea.

The Foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the convoy included 16 persons (13 doctors, two medical engineers and a representative of a surgical equipment company), and the team has been received by the Eritrean Ministry of Health.

The officials and the Eritrean public are said to have demonstrated their appreciation of the work of the team, which carried out its mission successfully since it has checked nearly 800 cases, and has performed 120 surgeries in the fields of general surgery and oncology, ophthalmology, bone and laparoscopic surgery,
in addition to 40 cases of complex teeth and prosthodontics, according the ministry.

The team also delivered 38 lectures at specialized universities and medical institutes in Asmara, the capital.

The medical team has taken samples of the mosquitoes that cause malaria to be analyzed in Egypt, in the framework of cooperation in the field of blood diseases.

One of the Egyptian doctors helped to establish a special department for fever and endemic diseases in "Orotta Hospital" (one of the largest hospitals in Asmara) for the first time in Eritrea.

The Eritrean Health Minister Amina Nur-Hussein, on behalf of the Eritrean government and people, thanked the Egyptian Foreign and Health ministries and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, as well as the Egyptian embassy in Asmara and the Eritrean embassy in Cairo for facilitating the dispatch of the team.

She also expressed her appreciation for the benefits realized by her country and the patients who received treatment and advanced surgery, as well as the training that the Eritrean doctors had received from the team.
