*March 17, 2015(**Nyamilepedia**)* — A new South Sudan Ambassador to the
United State, Amb. Garang Diing Akuong, narrates the events that led to
South Sudan crisis in December, 2013.

Through his elaboration, Amb. Garang, clarifies that the conflict that
broke out in South Sudan in December 2013 was a reaction from the president
to critical voices who criticized his leadership, and demanded that he
should step down from power because he is a dictator and a failure.

According to the newly appointed ambassador, Dr. Riek Machar, and the
eleven politicians, who were arrested and accused of having staged a coup
in December, 2013, met in presidency in March 2013 to demand that Salva
Kiir must step down.

“We know what happened in the time leading to the crisis, aaaah, Dr. Machar
would recall that, aaaaah, in Mash [March] 2013, he and group 11 call for a
meeting in the presidency where they call the president, he himself was
there, Pagan was there, Deng Alor was there and they call for the president
to step down” Amb. Garang responded to Dr. Machar on VOA.

“That was in Mash [March] 2013, then, in that meeting they call the
president to step down and each one of them [group 11] expressed his desire
to lead the South. The president told them that he didn’t have any problem
but let’s us go back to our institutions, which are the SPLM congress and
the people of South Sudan. That was the meeting of Mash” Garang explains
the genesis of South Sudan crisis.
