'Tribal Eritrea' photo exhibit

Published: Saturday, February 28, 2015

Barbara Paul of Westport present a photo exhibit entitled “Tribal
Eritrea” at the Fairfield University Downtown Bookstore in Fairfield
from March 2 through March 31.

All are invited to a reception on Saturday, March 14, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The exhibit will focus on the dress, ornamentation, dance and daily
life of the nine unique tribes who dwell in the rarely visited African
country of Eritrea.

Featured in the exhibit will be the extraordinary Rashaida women, who
wear long elaborately embroidered and beaded silver veils from the age
of 5 years old whenever they leave their desert tents.

Photos will also show other tribal groups, some dancing with their
heads thrown far back in their traditional style of dance, as well as
men performing sword dances.

Paul travels extensively to remote areas of the world, where people
dress as they have for centuries and practice age old customs, which
have persevered without modern encroachment. For more information
about “Tribal Eritrea”, contact Nancy Quinn at the Fairfield
University Downtown Bookstore at 203-255-7756, x501.
