U.S. Embassy organizes first-ever Travel and Tourism Outreach event
On August 14, the U.S. Embassy hosted a successful Travel and Tourism Outreach event attended by representatives from Eritrean travel agencies and several airlines on our Embassy grounds. The representatives heard from several Embassy employees about travel and tourism to the U.S., studying in the U.S., and about the visa process. Charge Louis Mazel was present for the entire event, and after the presentations answered many questions from the audience on a variety of topics.

In opening the event, Chief of Mission Mazel noted that travel and tourism to the United States creates jobs and builds understanding of U.S. society and values. Similarly, Mr. Mazel urged that more Americans come and visit Eritrea, describing the eco-tourism potential in Eritrea as “enormous” given the beautiful mountain scenery and 1200 kilometers of pristine coastline along the Red Sea. Additionally, the Dahlak Islands could offer diving and snorkeling to rival that of any place in the world. Mr. Mazel said Eritrea should explore offering cycling, hiking, and bird-watching excursions for foreign tourists. He added that Eritrea’s friendly and welcoming people make this the perfect environment for tourism growth. In closing he noted that “Everyone who visits Eritrea comes away with a much more positive impression of the country and its people.”
