Of all the Giants picks in the 2014 NFL Draft, Nat Berhe is easily the most
obscure. He didn't play at LSU, Notre Dame or USC, and wasn't the consensus
top-ranked center.

Berhe was a safety for San Diego State playing in the Mountain West
Conference who rather anonymously (to fans at least) flew around the field
and delivered big hits.

NFL teams apparently took notice. The Giants made Berhe their first of two
fifth-round picks with the 152nd-overall selection.

After the selection, coach Tom Coughlin, general manager Jerry Reese and
vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross all used the same phrase to
describe Berhe's game. He's "a football player," they all said.

"We use the term 'football player,'" Reese said. "This guy is one of those
guys, a football player."

What exactly does that mean? Isn't everyone the Giants drafted a football
player? The tape should help explain.

Instincts
Some players have it, some don't. Some are simply just special athletes
playing football. Others are football players excelling because they know
how to play football.

Mostly, instincts are innate, they can't be learned. The Giants insist that
Berhe has them. He knows where he's supposed to be and anticipates where
the play is headed. It's these natural instincts that allow him to make
plays without hesitation.

On this play, Berhe puts it all on display. It appears his job is to fake a
blitz and cover Fresno State wide receiver Isaiah Burse (who recently
signed with the Broncos) in the slot.

Berhe does an excellent job in coverage, then stays in position to contain
quarterback Derek Carr from running while simultaneously not allowing the
receiver too far out of his sight.
