The United Nations on Friday said Africa is on track to achieve industrial
development in the coming decades.

United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Representative
to Kenya, Eritrea and South Sudan Mpoko Bokanga told Xinhua in Nairobi that
in the past decade, the continent has posted solid economic growth.

"This sustainable growth can be leveraged to push for an industrial
revelation in Africa," Bokanga said during the launch of the eastern
Africa's manufacturing sector report.

According to the UN agency, Africa's growth has been fueled by exports in
agricultural and mineral raw materials. "Now the next step is for the
continent to upscale manufacturing activities," he said.

Bokanga said on average the industrial sector in Africa contributes ten
percent of the gross domestic product. "We are optimistic that the
continent can achieve the 20 percent mark in the several years time," he
said.

The UNIDO representative said an industrialization fund will go a long way
to catalyze the manufacturing sector. Endi
