"Please Tell Me My History"

When I was a little baby
I left my beloved country
Oh, Yes, once and forever
I couldn't remember.

Why for so long
Condemned to live alone
As a wondering exile
In countries far and wide
I didn't understand.

Why I couldn't enjoy once
The picturesque beauty of my land
Still hovering in my mind
As any child of her day
Craving for a wishful play.

But I am an Eritrean citizen
Tempered by patriotism
A mark of bravery
For Eritrea's eternal glory.

I think every now and then
Of many things to learn
Symbolizing my IDENTITY
In life's long journey.

You my dear fathers and mothers
Brothers and sisters
Please tell me
Tell me.....
Tell me....
My unknown history
Before the nightfall comes again
Where ignorance reigns.
