On October 13, 2013, the Eritrean Community of the New York Tri-state area
held services and a candlelight vigil for the victims of the Lampedusa
tragedy. It is to be remembered that hundreds of migrants on their way
towards Europe perished in the Mediterranean Sea after their boat capsized
not far from the shores of Lampedusa, Italy on the 3rd of October.
By necessity, members of the Eritrean Community need to come together and
have discussions on how to find ways of ensuring the welfare of our
compatriots are protected and to help prevent such tragedies like this one
from happening again. As such, The Eritrean Community of the New York
Tri-state area will have a meeting in regards to this and related issues.
