A 17-member delegation of African women visited southeast China's Fujian Province from July 15-17, 2013, to learn about women's work there and strengthen their understanding of Chinese women.

The delegation, headed by official of Eritrea's Ministry of Education Letebrhan Weldeselasie, consisted of women officials from eight countries in Africa, including Zimbabwe and Kenya.

The women learned about gender equality in China, women's and children's development and achievements that the Fujian Women's Federation has made in encouraging young local women to start their own businesses.

Both sides exchanged opinions on women's political participation and protection of women's legal rights and interests. Inspector of the Fujian Women's Federation Lin Wenxiu gave lectures on China's basic state policy of gender equality, the 'Spring Bud' project to support needy rural female students, and young women's entrepreneurship.

The delegation visited the Fujian Women's and Children's Activity Center on July 17, 2013, at which the center's Deputy Director Yu Anbin introduced to them the center's training program for women and children. Members of the delegation asked questions about training courses and organization methods. They also played with the children and talked to them.
