Government issues Proclamation with a view to establishing Land Transport Authority
Asmara, 29 May 2013 – The Government has issued Proclamation No. 174/2013 with a view to establishing Land Transport Authority.
The proclamation was adopted in line with the conviction that the establishment of a reliable, comprehensive, adequate, efficient and safe land transport system is decisive for the socio-economic growth of the country, besides the fact that the appropriate utilization of land transport system relies on the setting up and regulation of adequate standards and technical methods. Its setting up also pertains to the experience acquired through the restrictive role played by the dual accountability of the regional branch offices as regards efficient and effective implementation of the responsibilities and functions of the land transport sector.
The Proclamation comprised more than 23 Articles categorized in two parts and dealing with the objectives of Authority and its powers, duties, responsibilities and functions, among others.
