Sometimes when I think of us Eritreans in the Diaspora, here in
America, I feel like I am
smelling ' leadership vacuum ' but, then again when I think of the
good work Sophie, my good
friends Dr. Ghideon A. Asmero,and Dr. Berhe Habteghiorghis are doing,
I say may be I am not smelling exactly what I think I am smelling...
am I hallucinating? No... I don't believe so.. anyway, for a while
let us leave it there... something we may need to talk about another
time.
About Sophie Tesfamariam... a gallant, feisty, intelligent young
lady is keeping us well
informed and stay positive. Allow me to say to Sophie 'thanks a lot
and keep up the good work'. Her writings are researched and
documented... not whimsical or dreamy, just pure facts. Her gutsy
presentation of facts sometimes makes me think that she has inherited
the genes of her maternal great uncle Zerai Deres.
Zerai Deres, although from a slightly different context of
politics, time and history, was the gutsy
Eritrean who faced and Challenged the Italians in their own country
for desecrating the Abyssinian flag.
A couple of days ago, my wife and I went to a wedding... several
tables away from us, Sophie, her husband and her father Tesfamariam,
whom I know very well, were there too. It was a good wedding... people
were happy jumping up and down with pleasure... I left my wife and
went to Sophie's father to say a word or so about his daughter, but,
the music was so loud.. it made it impossible to utter a word and be
heard... so, I took a piece of paper from my pocket and joted down
saying ' We are all proud of your daughter (Sophie)...'. He read it
and was not hard to read from his face the pride and pleasure he felt.
