Our fallen heroes' sacrifice is the backone on which Eritrean sovereignty and independence are formed. On June 16th, Eritreans around the world will hold ceremonies and vigils to honor their memories.
Eritrea being a small country, we all have a less than one degree separation from a martyr or a martyr's family. Every one of us either has a family member or knows someone who fell in battle during Eritrea's struggle for independence or Weyane's invasion.
Many families have paid enormous sacrifices. Some Eritrean mothers have multiple kids (two or three) and a husband who were martyred. The strength they show on Martyrs Day is amazing! They have lost so much but they only feel pride and joy on that day, along with the rest of the country.
Martyrs Day is a holy day in Eritrea. There is definitely some sanctity and awe to the day.
So Happy Martyrs Day to all Eritreans around the world, but especially to those mothers of Warsays and Yikalos, as well as the Eritrean Defense Forces (EDF).
